Frequently Asked Questions
What external influence must be considered before buying a pillow?
When buying a pillow, you should consider your body type, preferred sleeping position and the hardness of your mattress. Altogether those factors define how your spine is aligned during sleep. The most important factor is the sleeping position - it defines the right height of the pillow to support your spine and improve blood circulation. Side sleepers on average need taller pillows compared to back sleepers, while stomach sleepers require minimal neck support.
The second thing to consider is body shape, because someone tall or with wide shoulders would need a higher pillow, while someone with a smaller frame, would be better suited to a lower pillow.
The last point to consider is the mattress - if you have a soft and elastic mattress which you'd sink deeper into, we'd recommend a flatter pillow. However, if your mattress is a bit harder and you sink just a little, your pillow should be slightly higher.
Which is the best pillow for side/back/belly sleepers?
For side sleepers, who lay slightly elevated, a good option can be the Emma Original pillow. For stomach sleepers, who are more likely to sleep flat, the Emma Microfibre pillow, with the middle layer removed, may be more comfortable. For back sleepers, the most ideal position for a night of good sleep is normally the supine position and for that the Emma Premium pillow would be the right choice.
All Emma pillows are designed to fit any body type and to be adjustable; whether by adding/removing layers or simply flipping the pillow over.
Ergonomically speaking, which type of pillow is the ideal one? And why?
The pillows that have more than one layer and allow adjustments are the most ideal, because they have multiple layers that can be added or removed, depending on the person's needs. At Emma, we have the Emma Original, Emma Premium and the Emma Microfibre.
For example, one layer is ideal for stomach sleepers that have a soft mattress and very narrow shoulders. Two layers is recommended for side sleepers with small shoulders or side sleepers with wide shoulders but a soft mattress. Three layers is ideal for side sleepers with wide shoulders and a hard mattress or back sleepers with reflux problems.
Which pillow is suitable for children?
It's not recommended for babies and small children to use a pillow. In general, most pillows sit too high for their small necks to be properly supported.
Which pillow is the most adjustable one?
Our Emma Original, Emma Premium and Emma Premium Microfibre pillows are all equipped with different inserts. This gives you seven different ways to make the cushion your own by flipping it or removing layers to adjust the firmness and height of the pillow.
Which are the softest and hardest pillows?
The Emma Microfibre pillow is the softest. The Emma Original pillow is the hardest, but only without adjustments.
Do I need to also buy pillowcases with the pillow?
It's not an obligatory item, but it's recommended to have a pillowcase to keep the pillow cover clean and also to match your sheets. Our pillow covers are washable and have a nice touch.
How does the trial period work for pillows?
The Risk-free Trial Period is an exclusive benefit offered to Emma customers.
The day your item arrives at your delivery address, the 30-night trial starts. We offer this benefit because we believe the only way you'll know if an Emma product is the right fit for you is by testing it and getting used to it. Within the trial period, if you still think our product is not the perfect match for you, you can return it. All you have to do is use our Returns Portal to start the process.
